Age and Medical Information

The skydiving activities which are good for this are a Tandem Skydive or our Basic Skydiving course.

Nobody under the age of 16 may participate in skydiving or parachuting – so it's not a bad 16th Birthday present! The consent of a parent or guardian is required for those under 18. Anybody who is 40 or over is required by law to have a Doctor's Certificate prior to jumping. There are various medical conditions which may require a Doctor's Certificate regardless of age, or indeed may prevent participation altogether. More details can be found here.

Tandem Skydives are the simplest and most popular gift. Tandem Skydivers are securely attached to their individual instructor for the entire trip, which includes freefalling for 45 seconds or so from around 13,000 feet, followed by several minutes under the parachute. This is planned as a one-day event; training involves a simple briefing which takes taking just 20 minutes on the day. Tandems may be booked for for any day of the week, all year round.
Tandems are suitable for just about anybody of any age – the oldest person who has done a Tandem at Skydive Langar was 94 years old! Great fitness is not a requirement, but nobody undertaking a skydive should be overweight for their height. Click here for more information.
The Basic Skydiving (Static Line) course is a suitable gift for anybody who is self-reliant and reasonably fit - and fancies learning to be a skydiver in their own right! This is a two day course, with training taking up all of the first day and jumping planned for the day after. Participants are trained to jump by themselves from 3,500 feet using an automatically opened parachute; extra jumps can be made at much reduced cost. Trainees can progress to solo freefall after a minimum of six jumps, and become qualified solo skydivers in as few as 18 jumps. Basic Course training is available only on certain days, normally a Saturday. Jumping is planned to take place on the Sunday, although you may jump on any day you like - once you have been trained!
Regulations do not allow people over the age of 55 to undertake any form of solo skydiving course, unless they have previous parachuting experience; tandem skydives do not count as previous experience. Solo skydiving is both mentally and physically taxing, so a reasonable level of all-round fitness is required. Click here for more information.
