Accelerated Free Fall - click here to book your course now!
Accelerated
Freefall (AFF) is the course for those who are really serious
about becoming a Skydiver. It is the fast-track route to becoming
a British Parachute Association 'Category 8' Qualified Solo
Skydiver. This is our most intensive course, so you will be
in a group of no more than three students, ensuring individual
attention. The programme is termed 'Accelerated' because the
learning process is three to five times faster than alternative
training systems - sorry, you don't fall faster! To achieve
this, AFF Instructors accompany you in freefall and provide
direct tuition during each 50 second skydive, assessing and
improving your performance moment by moment, giving you both
time and help to gain confidence and overcome any fears.
The AFF course is based on eight Levels of
accomplishment, normally one skydive at each Level, and is
designed to take place over a full week. Given good weather,
the course may sometimes be completed in a few days. After
graduating from the Course, you perform a further ten consolidation
jumps, guided by your Instructors, practising the skills you
have learned, after which you will be awarded 'Category Eight'
- and your first International Skydiving Licence!
The course commences with a full day of ground
tuition with your Instructor. This covers the theory and practice
of Skydiving and the use of your parachute system. You will
learn safety procedures, how the equipment operates, how to
exit the aircraft with your Instructors, how to maintain control
and communicate in freefall, how to initiate the opening of
the main parachute, and how to steer down to the landing area
and land safely. Before jumping, you will practise all the
procedures for both your skydive and the parachute descent
until your Instructors are completely satisfied with your
abilities.
When your Instructors are happy with your
performance on the ground, you will make your Level 1 skydive
from 12,000 feet with two Instructors holding on to you. They
continue to teach you during freefall using a system of hand
signals: direct in-air instruction is the most effective way
to learn Skydiving! So that we can help you after your parachute
is open as well, you will wear a radio. After every AFF jump,
a comprehensive debrief takes place with your Instructors,
followed by additional training both to improve skills learned
already and add those required for the next jump.
All the equipment you need is provided -
our parachuting equipment is state-of-the-art, and is specifically
designed for Sport use, with both safety and comfort in mind.
Two parachutes (a Main and a Reserve) are always carried.
Modern streamlined parachute equipment places both Main and
Reserve parachutes on your back using a container and harness
which is light and comfortable to wear. Student equipment
is fitted with additional safety devices for your peace of
mind. The Main parachute is a large 'square' (or 'ram-air')
canopy, and is the result of years of design innovation and
technical improvement based on rigourous testing and field
use. The Ram-Air design is now used by most experienced skydivers
as their Reserve as well as their Main canopy. You will also
be provided with a helmet, goggles, an altimeter to monitor
your descent, and a jumpsuit to go over your clothes. You
should wear comfortable loose clothing and good training shoes.
Accelerated Freefall is the way to become
a Skydiver; it is expensive, but the rewards are well worth
it! British Parachute Schools was the first Drop Zone in Britain
to teach skydiving under the Accelerated Freefall method.
AFF has been taught by the School at Langar since 1985, so
come and learn with the experts! We offer a range of course
price options. The full course price includes, for you to
keep, all the basic accessories needed as a skydiver - custom
tailored jumpsuit, altimeter, helmet, goggles, logbook - worth
several hundred pounds in all.
We offer a range of prices based on the accessory
options you select. We also offer an option to have a Freefall
Photographer with you on Levels 1 to 7, providing a video
record for you to keep, and an invaluable training aid, allowing
your Instructors to assess you in much greater detail.
